What Is the Metaverse and Why Should We Care About It?

Big Tech companies are building the next version of the internet.

There's no officially agreed-upon understanding of what "the metaverse" actually means. The term can best be described as a developing vision of the internet where multisensory enhancements, such as virtual reality (VR) headsets, enable users to do things like work, meet with friends, shop, and play games as digital avatars.
